In sport and performance, it is common to hear that “performance is 50% mental.” But, unlike the physical side of performance that has strength coaches, physiotherapists, and other well-known support personnel, it is not always clear where to turn to work on the mental side.
I have always had a deep appreciation for the mental side of performance and what it takes to reach the next level. After completing my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo, this passion led me to pursue my Masters in Human Kinetics with a Concentration in Intervention and Consultation from the University of Ottawa which prepared me to start my career as a Mental Performance Consultant.
As a lifelong athlete and former university soccer player, I have first-hand experience with the mental and physical challenges of trying to perform consistently at an optimal level. A large majority of athletes and performers face mental challenges at some point in their careers including but not limited to self-doubt, lack of focus, burnout, unclear goals, performance anxiety, low motivation, returning from injury, or maintaining balance in their lives. It is my goal to work with you to develop the tools you need to face whatever challenges you are experiencing.
When I’m not consulting, I enjoy being active and outdoors as much as possible! My favourite ways to burn energy are running, playing Gaelic Football, hiking, and snowboarding. I will take any chance I can get to spend time with my family – especially my two adorable nephews. You can also regularly catch me being way too competitive playing board games, Spikeball, and cheering on the Ottawa Charge at their home games.
My commitment is to growing the mental side of performance and helping athletes reach their own goals. Whether your “performance” is on the pitch, the ice, the stage, the workplace, the classroom, or even the gym, I want to work together with you to develop the mental skills you need to perform more consistently.
I am a firm believer that peak performance and well-being are not mutually exclusive – striving for your goals does not require sacrificing your well-being. Building a strong foundation of mental skills in one domain will significantly benefit the other. This is why it is very common to have discussions about overall well-being during the process of building your mental skills toolbox.
When working with clients, I combine my evidence-based knowledge of performance psychology, my first-hand experience as a competitive athlete, and my genuine nature in developing relationships. This allows me to develop a deeper understanding of you and where you want to go. Combining this with your commitment and openness to exploring your mental performance goals, we can work together to help you reach whatever your “next level” is.
Finally, I am committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for all. The best environment to reach your goals is one where you feel safe, respected, and free to be you. This is why my sessions are a safe space for all races, religions, sexual orientations, genders, and abilities.
